Restoring Plano, TX, Teeth with Dental Implants

Your teeth are valuable for social and functional reasons. They allow you to chew food properly and speak clearly, and a beautiful smile is an appealing sight to family, friends, and strangers. When you’ve lost one or more teeth, you need a sure method to restore your smile. Legacy West Dental in Plano, TX, offers patients dental implants, which are a durable and permanent solution to missing teeth. A dental implant consists of a titanium post implanted into your jawbone, an abutment, and a realistic crown that restores your bite and appearance. With regular oral hygiene and checkups at our office, you get lifelong dependability with your dental replacements.

Steps to Place Your Dental Implants

Dental implants are the closest option to replace your natural teeth, and Legacy West Dental understands the value of restoring teeth that have been lost. During the process of installing your dental implants, we prioritize your comfort and take extra care with each step to ensure the results are aesthetically and functionally precise. We’ve outlined the steps of the dental implant process to help you understand what to expect:

Step 1

During the first phase of the procedure, we completely numb your mouth using a local anesthetic and make incisions in your gums to access the bone underneath. We then drill spaces for the titanium posts and implant them in the jawbone. The gums are closed over where the implant has been placed, sometimes needing stitches, and then the posts fuse with the bone over the next few months.

Step 2

The second phase starts with making incisions to expose the implants and taking an impression after attaching an extension to them. The extension, or abutment, is what we use to attach your new crowns.

Step 3

The dental lab will create crowns based on the impressions and working models of your mouth to ensure proper alignment. These crowns look, feel, and function the same as your natural teeth.

Step 4

For the last step, we place the new crowns on the abutments to complete your implant restoration. Before permanently attaching them, the dentist may test the crowns in your mouth to make sure the fit and shape are correct.

Step 5

After the implant procedure is complete, your gums and soft tissues may swell or develop small bruises. If you experience any discomfort, it’s usually manageable with ordinary painkillers, such as ibuprofen, codeine, or hydrocodone.
